The five inhabited islands of the Isles of Scilly, and their countless uninhabited islands and rocks, lie 28 miles off Land's End, in the far south-west of Britain. This small, beautiful archipelago is geographically close to the mainland, yet in a world of its own. The Gulf Stream ensures a mild climate that supports sub tropical gardens. The Islanders provide a relaxed, friendly, idyllic environment in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The archipelago consists of over 100 rocks and islands. The largest of these is St Mary’s, which supports a population of about 1500 people, of which Hugh Town is the centre of island life. On Scilly there’s always something to do. Whether you are a sailor, a walker, a bird watcher, an artist, a connoisseur of sunsets, a seeker of sun-bleached hair and the perfect tan, a lover of real ale, or someone who simply appreciates stunningly beautiful and ever-changing seascapes, then Scilly is for you. | ||||||||||
